Zürich from Glashütte

Large, but discreet: the new watch from NOMOS is called Zürich,
because it combines the best elements from Glashütte and
Switzerland. It has an automatic caliber, is quite elegant, and a bit
more expensive Glashütte, September 2009. Zurich – one of the most expensive cities in the world, highly international, yet still just a village. It has the distinction of being one of the cities with the highest quality of living (unfortunately, Glashütte does not even come close). It is known for its banks, the elegant Bahnhofstraße, the beautiful “badis” (bath houses), and the infamous Platzspitzpark.
And now Zurich is the city of a watch: the new Zürich model. Rounded
corners, parallel bevels, massive elegance. It might sound paradoxical, but it isvery beautiful, very NOMOS Glashütte.

The automatic movement in this new NOMOS watch comes from the Glashütte
manufactory: the high end Epsilon caliber well-known from the Tangomat and
Club Automat. It is therefore not a product of Switzerland, but is made entirely in the Mecca of fine watchmaking in Saxony. The watch case, however, hails from the Swiss confederacy; and the precision of its highly polished finishing is in no way inferior to the accuracy displayed in the finissage of the movement.

Big, but neither threatening nor gaudy, and anything but pretentious. Zürich is asolid (men’s) watch that remains discreet despite its size. Finally NOMOS
Glashütte now has a watch to offer those who love big watches, maybe because they themselves are somewhat larger or because fashion has greatly changed the way one looks at watches. The new NOMOS watch is for people with a clear sense of reason: this model reflects a love for logic and for the art of engineering.
All the forms in the case are geometrical, created from simple individual shapes: a watch of true (masculine) beauty. And, a watch that
deserves a second look. Things that appear quite simple at first inspection later reveal themselves to be highly complex. You can behold this watch over and over again without tiring of it. There is always something new to discover – even after a lifetime of looking.

And still the question remains: why “Zürich”? Here people learn all about
watches even before they are old enough to begin school. Just like in Glashütte.
And the cosmopolitan, down-to-earth nature of the watch fits perfectly with the city. Most importantly, though, Zurich was the home of Hannes Wettstein, who sketched the plans for this watch. NOMOS Glashütte considers this renowned designer, who recently died far too young, to be one of the most unique in his craft.
Zürich (also with date indicator option) will be available in the fine watch and
jewelry stores from the beginning of November. Later, NOMOS will also be
introducing a variation with world clock.
